In a significant leap towards self-reliance in defense technology, BrahMos Aerospace, the Indo-Russian joint venture, has announced that its supersonic cruise missile system has achieved an 83% indigenization level. This milestone, as stated by BrahMos CEO & MD, Mr. A. D. Rane, is attributed to a "systematic approach and a renewed push for self-reliance."
BrahMos, in collaboration with various Indian industries, has successfully manufactured crucial sub-systems like boosters and seekers, as well as numerous smaller components. Rigorous testing and validation of these indigenous components have proven their reliability and efficacy, leading to their integration into the BrahMos missile system.
This achievement marks a significant step towards reducing India's dependence on foreign suppliers for critical defence technologies. Furthermore, it bolsters the nation's domestic defense production capabilities, fostering a robust ecosystem of defense industries.
Mr. Rane acknowledged the instrumental role played by Indian industries in achieving this milestone. By empowering these companies to produce major sub-systems, BrahMos has not only strengthened the domestic defense sector but also contributed to the overall economic growth of the country.
While the 83% indigenization level is a commendable achievement, it is expected that BrahMos will continue its efforts to achieve 100% indigenization by 2026. The company's ongoing focus on research and development, coupled with advancements in domestic technology and production capabilities, will be pivotal in achieving this goal.
