INS Talwar Equipped with BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile

In a significant development for the Indian Navy, the INS Talwar, a Talwar-class frigate, has been upgraded with the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system. The upgrade was unveiled during International Yoga Day celebrations on the warship, showcasing the Navy's commitment to modernizing its fleet.

The BrahMos, an Indo-Russian joint venture, is a state-of-the-art supersonic cruise missile with a range exceeding 290 km. This advanced missile system significantly enhances the INS Talwar's offensive capabilities, allowing it to engage targets at a much greater distance than its previous armament.

This upgrade is part of a larger modernization effort for the Talwar-class frigates, which also includes the installation of Universal Vertical Launching Modules (UVLM). These modules provide greater flexibility in missile selection and storage, further enhancing the frigates' combat capabilities.

The Talwar class, while originally based on the Russian Krivak III-class design, incorporates a significant amount of Indian-made systems, reflecting India's growing self-reliance in defence technology. The integration of the BrahMos missile system further solidifies the frigates' role as potent assets in the Indian Navy's arsenal.

With the BrahMos upgrade, the INS Talwar is now a more formidable warship, capable of projecting Indian naval power with greater force and reach. This development is expected to strengthen India's strategic position in the region and enhance its ability to respond to potential threats.
